Comparison

Sonara vs GoDaddy Website Builder

GoDaddy is where a lot of small businesses already are, because it is where they bought the domain. That is a convenience, and it is worth knowing what it costs you.

GoDaddy's website builder is bundled next to the two things most small businesses buy from them first — the domain name and the email address. One login, one bill, and a site that goes up quickly. For a business that wants a page with an address and a phone number on it, that is a perfectly reasonable buy at $9.99 a month.

What you are buying is a section-based editor with a limited set of layouts, and a website that is hard to tell apart from the next one built the same way. Sonara designs each site for the business it belongs to, builds it from what is already published about you, and lets you change it by asking rather than by editing sections.

Being straight about it

When GoDaddy is the better buy

If you want the domain, the mailbox and the website on one bill from one company, GoDaddy is the tidiest version of that and we do not sell you an email address at all.

If what you need is genuinely one page — name, what you do, phone number, map — then almost anything works, and the cheapest thing that works is the right answer. That is a fair description of GoDaddy Basic.

Their support is also open at hours ours is not, and for some people that alone settles it.

Moving over

If you are already on GoDaddy

GoDaddy sites cannot be exported, so moving means rebuilding. Paste your current address into Sonara and it reads the live site — your services, hours, photos and copy — and builds from those rather than from a blank page.

Keep the domain where it is if you like. You do not have to transfer a GoDaddy domain to point it at a Sonara site; changing where it points is a two-minute job and your email carries on untouched.

Questions

Sonara vs GoDaddy, asked and answered

Is Sonara better than GoDaddy Website Builder?

For a business that wants a website that looks made for it and can take bookings, yes — Sonara designs each site individually, builds it from what is already published about your business, and includes bookings on every plan where GoDaddy starts them at $14.99 a month. For a single page next to a domain and a mailbox on one bill, GoDaddy is a reasonable buy and simpler to administer.

Do I have to move my domain away from GoDaddy?

No. You can keep buying and renewing your domain at GoDaddy and simply point it at your Sonara site — it takes a couple of minutes and your GoDaddy email is unaffected. Transferring the domain is optional.

Can I keep my GoDaddy email address?

Yes. Sonara does not sell mailboxes and does not touch yours — your email stays exactly where it is, with whoever you bought it from, whichever site the domain points at.
