Terms of Service

1. What Sonara is

You tell Sonara about your business — in your own words, or by pasting links to pages that already describe it, like your website, your business listing or your social profile. Sonara reads what you give it, designs and writes a website, and puts it live at a real web address. You change anything by asking for it in the chat, and your edits go live in minutes. Most sites also include a small database, so the enquiry and booking forms on them actually work.

2. Your account

You must be at least 18 years old (or the age of majority where you live) and able to enter into a binding agreement. Your email address identifies your account — there’s no password, so anyone who can read your email can sign in as you. Keep it secure, and tell us at [email protected] if you think someone else has access.

3. Credits, plans and payment

Sonara runs on credits. Every account gets an allowance of them each month — the free plan included — and each thing you ask Sonara to build or change spends some. A month’s allowance doesn’t roll over: it goes back to your plan’s figure rather than adding to what was left. Credits have no cash value, can’t be transferred, and can’t be redeemed for money. We may change what a given task costs going forward; changes apply to future work, not to credits you’ve already spent.

Paid plans are billed in advance through our payment processor. Unless your plan says otherwise, it renews automatically at the end of each billing period at the then-current price until you cancel. You can cancel anytime — your plan stays active through the end of the period you’ve paid for and won’t renew after that.

Except where the law requires otherwise, payments are non-refundable, and cancelling doesn’t entitle you to a refund for the current period. If you think you’re owed one, email [email protected] and we’ll review it; we may issue refunds at our discretion.

4. Hosting your site

We host and serve your site while your account is in good standing. The free plan has no time limit: your site stays live without a subscription, and carries a “Built with Sonara” link that a paid plan removes. If you close your account, or we suspend it for breaking these rules, we may pause your site — visitors then see a short “paused” page instead of it. Pausing doesn’t delete anything: your site comes back as it was.

We don’t promise any particular level of uptime, and we may change how the service works as we improve it.

5. Domains

Every site gets a free address on our domain. You can also connect a domain you already own — you confirm you own or control it, and you authorize us to set up the DNS records needed to serve your site on it — or buy one through us.

A domain bought through us is registered in your name, for one year, with the registrar we use. ICANN requires a real name, email address, phone number and postal address for every registration, so checkout asks for them and we pass them to the registrar; giving false details can get a domain suspended. A registration is final the moment it goes through — domain fees are non-refundable, including if you later stop using Sonara. Registrations don’t renew automatically; email us before yours expires if you want to keep it.

6. Your site and your responsibilities

The site Sonara builds is published on the public web, and it’s yours. You’re responsible for what goes on it — the material you give us and the changes you ask for — and you confirm you have the rights to all of it. That includes anything Sonara reads from links you paste: paste links to your own business, not someone else’s. We publish what you ask us to; we don’t review or vet your site’s content, and keeping it accurate and lawful is up to you.

If your site collects information from its visitors — an enquiry, a booking, a sign-up — that information is yours, and you control it. As between you and us, you decide what to collect, you tell your visitors how you’ll use it (with your own privacy notice, where one is required), and you get any consent the law requires. Don’t use your site or its forms to spam, phish, or collect people’s information deceptively. We store and process that data on your behalf so your site works.

7. Acceptable use

When you use Sonara, you agree not to:

We may suspend or close accounts, and take down sites, that break these rules.

8. Your content and the licence you give us

You keep ownership of everything you send us, you own your site and the data it collects, and you own what Sonara creates for you to the extent the law allows. So that we can actually do the work, you grant us a licence to store, process, transmit, modify, host and publish it — including with the service providers that run Sonara (see our Privacy Policy) — solely to provide the service to you. We do not use your content, or the data your site collects, to train AI models.

9. AI outputs

Sonara is built on AI, and AI makes mistakes. What it writes may contain errors or claims about your business that aren’t quite right — especially when it has drawn them from a listing or a page it read. Check your site before you send customers to it, and don’t rely on anything factual, legal or financial without reading it first. You’re responsible for what your site says.

10. Copyright

We respect intellectual property rights and expect you to do the same. If you believe content on a site built with Sonara infringes your copyright, email [email protected] with: a description of the work, the material at issue and where to find it, your contact information, a statement that you believe in good faith the use isn’t authorized, a statement under penalty of perjury that your notice is accurate and you’re authorized to act, and your signature. We act on valid notices and close the accounts of repeat infringers.

11. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Sonara and its team from claims, losses and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of the content you submit or publish, your website and the data it collects from your visitors, your use of the service, or your breach of these terms or someone else’s rights.

12. Disclaimers

The service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We don’t promise it will be uninterrupted or error-free.

13. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Sonara and its team won’t be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data or goodwill. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the greater of $100 or what you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose. Some jurisdictions don’t allow certain limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you; there, our liability is limited to the smallest extent the law permits.

14. Disputes and arbitration

Let’s try to sort it out first. If something goes wrong, email [email protected] — most things can be settled that way.

If we can’t, you and Sonara agree to resolve any dispute relating to Sonara or these terms by binding arbitration on an individual basis rather than in court. Arbitration is administered by the American Arbitration Association under its Consumer Arbitration Rules, and the Federal Arbitration Act governs this section. The arbitrator — a neutral, not a judge or jury — decides the dispute and may award the same individual relief a court could. We’ll pay the filing and arbitrator fees the AAA’s consumer rules require us to pay, and any in-person hearing takes place in the US county where you live, or the matter can be handled by phone, video or in writing.

Exceptions. Either of us may bring an eligible claim in small-claims court, and either of us may ask a court to stop infringement or misuse of intellectual property.

Class-action waiver. Disputes are handled only on an individual basis. You and Sonara waive the right to bring or take part in any class, collective or representative action. If that waiver is unenforceable for a particular dispute, that dispute proceeds in court rather than in arbitration, and the rest of this section still applies.

Opt out. You can opt out of this arbitration agreement within 30 days of first accepting these terms by emailing [email protected] from your account’s email address, saying you opt out. Opting out doesn’t affect the rest of these terms.

15. Ending things

You can stop using Sonara at any time — delete a site from your dashboard, or email [email protected] to close your account and delete your data. Deleting a site takes it off the web and removes the data it had collected, so export anything you want to keep first. We may suspend or close your access, and take down your site, if you break these terms or to protect the service and other customers. Anything that by its nature should survive — licences you’ve granted, disclaimers, limitation of liability, indemnification and dispute resolution — survives.

16. Changes, and the rest

We may update these terms as the service changes. If a change is material, we’ll tell you — by email or a notice in the app — before it takes effect, and continuing to use Sonara afterwards means you accept it.

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. They’re the entire agreement between you and Sonara and replace anything earlier. If any part is unenforceable, the rest stays in effect, and our not enforcing something isn’t a waiver of it. You can’t assign these terms; we may assign them to an affiliate or in connection with a merger or sale of assets.
